What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand and express your
emotions in ways that are respectful of self and others. It is a balance between
the human aspects of emotion and cognition that result in better decisions and a
healthier life. Emotional Intelligence in a phrase coined in 1990 by Salovey,
Mayer and Caruso about the field of research on the emotions.

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to sense, understand and effectively apply
the power and acumen of emotions as a source of human energy, information and
influence. EQ [like IQ except with emotions] motivates us to pursue our unique

What does the science of emotional intelligence show us?
It shows us that increasing
emotional intelligence produces significant positive results in increased
physical health (increased immune function, decreased cardiovascular disease),
decreased phobias, addictions, depression and anxiety and better life
satisfaction due to better relationships and more success in life.
